Little Dinosaur goes about his day, roaring and defeating all the obstacles that come before him: talking grownups, spaghetti, bath time, and brushing his teeth.  There is still one thing that he has not defeated, however: bedtime.  Even big strong dinosaurs like him have to sleep.  The fanciful, childlike drawings and bold, saturated color that only barely stays inside the lines makes the reader feel like he/she is participating in an adventure of the dinosaur’s own creation.

Great first book about conflict and resolution and covers 2nd grade VA SOL 2.8f: “Identify problem and solution.”  Great book, also, for showing what sort of things the dinosaur “wins” at:  he doesn’t really rebel against doing things he has to do, but rather “wins” at brushing his teeth, and taking a bath– a great message for children who need to recognize that some things we don’t want to do still have to get done.  Why don’t we do it the best that we can (with roaring if necessary)?
