The Story of Ferdinand

Ferdinand is a peace-loving bull who loves nothing more than lying under a tree and smelling the flowers. One day, Ferdinand gets stung by a bee, and starts snorting and stomping– ironically, the same day that the bull-fighting ring from Madrid is looking for mean bulls. Ferdinand is brought to the ring to fight. Will Ferdinand do it? Or will he be true to his pacifist roots?
This book is a great title for young kids to talk about how fighting isn’t necessary. Also great for older kids to discuss the pacifist underpinnings and the assertion at times that this book is “un-American.”
