Seashore Story

By Taro Yashima
Published by Viking Juvenile, 1967
A group of children go to a shore to relax, and they were reminded of an ancient story. A man saves a turtle, and in return, the turtle brings him to an underwater paradise. Time passes, and he misses his family. However, he has been gone so long that the people he knew, including his family, are gone forever. The book ends with the children discussing the moral of the story.
This rather deep fable is a good book to read to middle and even high schoolers for determining theme and plot/subplots.
