Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed

By Mo Willems
Published by Hyperion Books, 2009
Wilbur the naked mole rat was the only mole rat that liked to wear clothes. Everyone thought he was crazy for wanting to wear clothes and brought him before the elder mole rat for a ruling on whether or not his clothes– and his clothing shop– should be allowed. Surprisingly, they were! And the mole rats started to use clothing to express themselves in new ways.
This book speaks to the price of uniqueness and individuality within society. Is it worth sticking out if it means you get picked on? What does it take to finally be accepted? This book can spur social commentary even among middle and high school students.
