Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!

By Mo Willems

Published by Hyperion Books, 2003

Mo Willems breaks the wall between reader and book characters in this book by eliciting responses from the readers.  A bus driver asks the readers to watch the bus and make sure the pigeon doesn’t drive it away.  A pigeon begs and pleads (and even throws a tantrum!) in order to convince the readers to let him drive.  The assumption is that no one let’s him, and the pigeon is sad.  That is, until he sees a semi truck…and you’ll never guess what the pigeon wants to do next!

Great read for young kids who like to be involved with the books, because they are required to respond to the book.  No curricular connection.
