It seems like Madeline is always in trouble, and this story is no different. Madeline, balancing on a bridge railing, falls into the river below. She would have drowned if it were not for a dog that rescues her. The girls fall in love with the dog and bring it back to the boarding house, but then fight over the dog. The parents of the girls drive the dog out of the boarding house, and the girls are very upset. They spend a lot of time looking for her, and are rewarded with her return. Soon after, the dog gives birth to twelve puppies– enough for all of the girls to have their own dog.
Another Madeline classic, this book is great for young readers.
