Will’s parents told him that there weren’t any more wooly mammoths. BUt he doesn’t believe them. The snowy hill, in his imagination, becomes the back of one of the huge furry beasts for Will to ride. This largely wordless picturebook is rife with images full of movement and excitement that happens in Will’s mind… until dinnertime.
This is a great book to use when speaking about prehistoric animals. Gammel’s illustrations depict other contemporary animals that were also around at the time of the mammoth, and students will recognize many of these as familiar today.
