Max’s Chocolate Chicken

By Rosemary Wells

Published by Penguin Books for Young Readers, 1999

One day, Max finds a chocolate chicken in the bird bath, and he wants to eat it.  However, his sister tells him that first he must find more colored eggs than she does in order to obtain ownership of said chicken.  Max gets distracted, and discovers a lot of things… not one of which is a colored egg.  Max instead just steals the chicken, hides, and eats it all.  Someone mysteriously leaves another chicken for Max’s sister in the same spot, and everyone is happy.

No curricular connections apparent.
